What Does “Bladeless” LASIK Really Mean?

Dec 6, 2018

Indianapolis LASIK Treatment

When some people think of eye surgery, they think of frightening things, like needles and blades in their eyes. But, to most patients’ relief, our LASIK procedures are completely bladeless, so there’s no need to worry about us poking and prodding your eyes with sharp objects.

Bladeless Technology

In recent years, most LASIK surgeons have done away with blades and transitioned to completely bladeless procedures. Before the recent advancements in technology, a blade was used to make the LASIK flap on the eye, but now, a laser beam is used to create the flap. Using a laser allows the surgeon to create a custom LASIK flap based on your eye’s unique shape and structure. The laser is virtually painless, and the flap process only takes about 25 seconds.

Different types of lasers have been used for LASIK procedures, but here at 20/20 Institute, we only do bladeless procedures and use the latest FDA approved lasers for all of our procedures, no matter the patient’s prescription or price of the procedure.

Pros of Bladeless LASIK

20/20 Institute is proud to offer bladeless LASIK procedures to all of our patients. This allows our surgeon to create a custom LASIK flap that is a good fit for each patient. And, most importantly, bladeless procedures have a significantly lower chance of complications, both during and after the procedure, making it a safer procedure than those that are done with a blade.
