20/20 Institute Eye Health Tips

At 20/20 Institute, we want you to see your holiday memories more clearly! Our eyes need certain nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to operate properly, so the foods we eat can make a huge difference to our vision, especially in the long term. Until you get LASIK and join Club 20/20, we still want you to take care of your health. Here are some great tips to help you keep that 20/20 LASIK vision for life!

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial for brain function and a strong immune system, and research has shown that they play an important role in visual development and retinal function. The top source of omega-3 fatty acids is fish, although they are also present in many other foods.

Vitamins C and E

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that may lower the risk of developing cataracts and slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration and loss of visual sharpness. Vitamin E is another antioxidant; it protects our eyes from dangerous molecules called “free radicals” that disrupt healthy tissue growth and reproduction. These two vitamins, in particular, will be great for your new 20/20 LASIK vision; trust us, your eyes will thank you!

However, you get your vitamins, be sure to consult with your primary physician before taking any additional supplements.

Stress and Vision Health

If you’re going through a busy patch in life, you may be feeling the effects of stress. Maybe you’re cranky, tired, and on edge, or maybe you constantly crave comfort foods, no matter how unhealthy they are (we know, those are always the best ones!). A 2015 Healthline survey that studied stress during the holidays shows that overall the majority of respondents were experiencing some level of stress. However, more gen Xers reported feeling stressed (65 percent) with baby boomers (62 percent) and millennials (61 percent) closely behind. Additionally, 100% of people who join Club 20/20 report seeing better than they ever thought was possible…That could include you!

Did you know that stress can also affect your eyes? When your life feels too hectic or tough, your eyes can pay a price like the rest of your body does. Here are some key tips to keep the stress away and your vision crystal clear!

You probably know what de-stresses you better than anybody. However, if you need some ideas, try:

  • Taking a long, warm bath and focusing on how it feels
  • Meditating
  • Taking slow, deep breaths, sending the air into your belly instead of your chest
  • Exercising

As always, you’ll feel better if you make sure to get enough sleep and eat well. Even though you’re busy, taking at least a few minutes to consciously relax will help your body calm down. No matter what, 20/20 Institute is here to help you every step of the way during the holiday season. Let us take away your holiday stress and give you the wonderful gift of perfect vision!
