How to prepare for your LASIK consultation

Thinking about LASIK? A consultation is your first real step toward ditching glasses and contacts for good. It’s where you’ll learn if you’re a good candidate and what results you can expect.

At Elite LASIK & Cataract, we’re here to make that first visit comfortable, informative, and stress-free. Here's how you can get ready so you feel confident walking through our doors.

1. Stop wearing contact lenses in advance

If you wear contact lenses, you’ll need to stop wearing them for a few days before your consultation.

Why? Contacts can temporarily change the shape of your cornea. Taking a break allows your eye to return to its natural shape so we can get the most accurate measurements.

  • Soft contacts: stop 3–5 days before
  • Hard or gas-permeable contacts: stop 2–4 weeks before.

If you’re not sure which type you wear, just call our team and we’ll guide you.

2. Bring your glasses and your prescription

Even if you don't wear them often, bring your current glasses and any records of your glasses or contact lens prescription. It helps us understand your history and compare it to your current measurements.

3. Write down your questions

The consultation is your time to ask anything you're curious about. Common questions include:

Bring a list so you don’t forget during your visit.

4. Know your medical history

Be prepared to talk about:

  • Past eye surgeries
  • Eye conditions like dry eye or glaucoma
  • Any medications you’re taking
  • Any systemic health conditions like diabetes

This helps your surgeon make the safest and most informed decision for your care.

5. Expect a thorough eye exam

This isn’t your average vision test. We’ll perform a full series of scans and measurements, including:

  • Corneal thickness
  • Eye shape and curvature
  • Tear film quality
  • Pupil size
  • Prescription stability.

These tests help us determine whether LASIK is right for you or if another procedure might be a better fit.

6. You don’t need to decide that day

While some people choose to schedule their surgery right away, there’s no pressure. You’ll leave your consultation with a clear understanding of your options, and you can take time to think about your decision.

7. Plan for about 90 minutes

The consultation is thorough and customized to your needs. Plan to be in the clinic for 60 to 90 minutes, depending on how many questions you have.

What happens next?

If you're a candidate and you're ready to move forward, we’ll help you schedule your procedure, review pre-op instructions, and walk you through financing options if needed.
